 Sklansky was born and raised in Teaneck, New Jersey, where he graduated from Teaneck High School but dropped out before graduation the University of Pennsylvania.

His father was a mathematics professor and David followed his footsteps in having high mathematical abilities and being a young math and logic prodigy.

 He has written and contributed to many books on poker, blackjack, and general gambling. Back in 1983 he co-wrote his first book, Winning Poker with Roger Dionne and has since written 12 more books on various forms of poker and gambling.
